2001: A Space Odessy (1968) produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick   A stunning visual masterpiece, based on the Arthur C. Clarke novel, concludes with a mind blowing sequence and the antics of HAL the computer gone awry   Order it from Amazon.com !

M*A*S*H*  (1970)M*A*S*H*  (1970) with Donald Sutherland, Elliot Gould, and Tom Skerritt, directed by Robert Altman  Faithful to Richard Hooker's novel,  this film about a Korean War mobile army surgical hospital, was a biting social commentary on the Vietnam War.

Patton (1970) with Karl Malden and George C. Scott; directed by Franklin J. Schaffner   Another  war film, this time about General George Patton, the  brilliant but rebellious military genius of the Allied World War II assault on the Nazis.  This film won 8 Academy Awards*  including Best Picture and Best Actor Oscars.  Scott's opening monologue is unforgettable.  Screenplay by Francis Ford Coppola.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)  with Malcolm McDowell,  written and directed by Stanley Kubrick  Another Kubrick masterpiece, it is a social commentary on punk violence and the degeneration of society that rings eerily true today.  It was quite a shocker upon its release.

Blazing Saddles (1974) by Mel BrooksBlazing Saddles (1974)  with Clevon Little and Gene Wilder; directed by Mel Brooks   Comic spoof of the great Westerns, loaded with gags, jokes, and puns is a side splitting howl of laughter.  Politically incorrect by today's standards, still one of Mel Brooks' best ever
